Long Beach Island Surf Fishing Classic

The LBI Surf Fishing Classic Committee in partnership with the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce would like to say thank you to all of the anglers and sponsors who made 2013 a success.

Congratulations to the winners! Brian Schmidt of Manahawkin, NJ caught the heaviest striped bass weighing in at 31.13-lbs winning the 59th Annual's $1000 Striper Grand Prize. Bill Montrey of Manahawkin, NJ took the $1000 Bluefish Grand Prize with his 12-lb yellow eyed gator. The Striped Bass Segment winners were Courtland Foos, Robbie Valone, Joesph Guarini and Michael Kane. For more details check out the ARCHIVE.

The Committee and Chamber is excited about next year's 60th Anniversary. It will be special! The dates and details are still to be determined. The eight week surf fishing tournament for striped bass and bluefish offers surfcasters the opportunity to compete for thousands of dollars in daily, weekly, segment and grand prizes. There are also additional special prizes that are presented by businesses, fishing clubs and other supporters like LBI Surf Fishing Tournament participants. For more details about these special prizes log on the Long Beach Island Surf Fishing Classic's Facebook Page.

We are looking forward to another fantastic surf fishing season on Long Beach Island! All beaches are open to drive on for the Tournament, conditions permitting. Surf anglers looking to fish via 4x4 Beach Buggy Access must purchase a permit from each municipality that one would want to drive on or through. The following towns sell beach buggy permits at their police stations: Beach Haven, Harvey Cedars, Long Beach Township, Ship Bottom, Surf City.

Mandatory NJ Saltwater Angler Registry

All Saltwater Anglers ages 16 and older MUST register if recreationally fishing (by hand, with a hand line, rod reel and line or spearfishing) in the marine and fresh tidal waters of the State of New Jersey. It is also required for anglers landing any catch in New Jersey even though recreationally fishing in federal waters outside the State of New Jersey.

The registry program is free. Register is online at http://www.nj.gov/dep/saltwaterregistry

NOTE: Anglers with a valid registration with the National Saltwater Angler Registry or those that have a valid license from another exempted state are required to register with the NJ Saltwater Recreational Registry Program. Registration with NJ will exempt you from having to register with the National Saltwater Angler Registry.

The LBI Surf Fishing Classic is generously supported by all of the companies listed on each side of this page as well as the following list below. Thanks for all of the support this year and every year. Without you the LBI Surf Fishing Tournament would not be as special! A special thanks to Mickey Melchiondo, the Billy Walton Band & Friends as well as Tom Hughes at the Sea Shell Hotel Bar for making the Benefit Concert happen. If you would like to support the tournament next year click here to download the LBIFT Sponsorship Opportunities Form.
